As a first part of our short film project we were asked to come up with at least two ideas for a shortfilm. So for the last four days I have been thinktankin, pushing my creative thinking. Well, atleat Ive tried. I dont feel I have come up with anything "groundbreaking" exactly, but there might be a couple of them that might work well.
So lets get started!
So after a while of doing little mindmaps like the one above, not feeling I was moving forward at all, opted to start write some story ideas down in Word. Like Ive mentioned, the creativity has not been on its top peak lately, so the quality of them is... ummm.. questionable..? Perhaps. But nomatter, I present the wordfile here for you to take a look at, if you so please.

01: E.L.E.
Ok, first idea pitch to hit the table would have to be my E.L.E. story. E.L.E. is an acronym for Extiction Level Event, which is for those that do not know, the same thing that killed off the dinosaurs for instance. In this case a bit bigger impact...
Those in class should be relative familiar with it, for those that is not, I recommend you browse through these posts;
Project 5 Journal - The story itself
Project 6 Journal - The storyboard
Project 7 Journal - The animatic
Im not a hundred percent happy with it all, but the basic concept of what I am looking for is there.
The idea here is basically that the earth has been destroyed by a giant meteor, and those that got away did so in giant arks. Their bodies put in cryogenic sleep, now moving full speed towards the closest stars, in a search for a new planet to call home. Having a central carekeeper (or more) taking care of business and maintenace on the ship. Perhaps a robot, or rather android. Or for that matter a clone/s of the original caretaker. As it would take some time to get to their destinations.
But there are many dangers in space, amongst others are radiation, black holes, solar flares, debris like rocks in various sizes, micro-meterorites and so forth.
So getting to wherever they are getting, will require sacrifices...
I find the ELE story pitch quite intriguing myself, and would be something I'd acctually consider making, regardless of setting. The KISS rule would apply here aswell, sci-fi stuff can be kept quite clean and simple in its design. Not to mention one character to animate, though it would be a lot of it. As a sci-fi geek that I am, I think this would be my top-on-the-list project to do, had I have to choose right now.
Manly man, oh yes, indeed.
“A calm cottage in the woods, the fire is burning hot in the fireplace. A sudden rumble starts.. the grounds shake, vibrations stir a glass of water. The door FLIES open, kicked in by the most rugged of ruggedly ragged mans man. Covered in dirt and crap, he reaches in his breast pocket, flicking a cigarette into his extending lower jaw. Covers his left nostril and SSSNARLS, shooting fire through his right nostril to light it. Yes, he is so much of a man, he can shoot fire through his nose. But anyway, this manly man of a man then yells out; “WOMAN!! DINNER, is caught!!”, and out of his manly man-purse slowly protrude and prolong the biggest, the most colossal, most epicly ginormous and most certainly man-eating Faull of a bird….! And this man-eating-menace-to-man of a danger when showed to the perplexed and wide-eyed wif... no, compa… WOM... nooo… MISTRESS, of his manly manness, utters three words;
“George…… A chicken……?”
The man’s wide smile now starts to break, his posture weakened, eyes twittering..
The woman approaches, her hand reaching under kitchen sink. Her beady eyes never leaving his sight. Tipp-toe-ing over, like any classy lady would do, that happens to be wearing as tight skirts and girders as this one do, firmly and gently lifts the man, now appearing incredibly small in comparison, by his collar, gets swiftly held outside a window, as the hand that hold the dreaded manlynessremover, THE HOSE! appears, squirts, once, twice. Pauses.. And one more for good measure… Revealing a tiny little man, squinting, grovelling, cursing. Still holding the mighty “kill”, a tiny little yellow chick, in his now, not so much manly arms. Swiftly gets dragged back inside, held before a fan to be dried, and then dumped on a baby chair, as a massive turkey is placed on his platter.
I suppose the main thought here was a man that had been out in the forest, hunting for food for his MISTRE... oh wait, yeah, his wife.. And while being out there in the mighty forest this tiny man has been covered in so much dirt and crap his body appears as muscular as the HULK himself. No disregard that, The Hulk would appear tiny in comparison, THATS how manly man-ness of a man this man is! Before getting picked up by his wife and hosed off that is..
I like the setting here, and I should have had some more illustratons to show you guys better how I see it, but there is no time at the moment for that. Ill see what I can come up with over the weekend though. A few kinks to be worked out in it, but the basic premise is layed down.
Once upon a time there was a little girl, and she was all alone in her world. In all the time she has been here all alone, she has dreamed of one day meeting someone special, someone she could call her friend. So she sets out on a voyage to find her special someone. On her journey she faces great danger, as nature can be cruel to little girls who wander about all alone. The trees can come alive, animals with big and shiny teeth is found in every hidden corner. But sometimes it’s a persons own fear that is the real danger… The mind telling you its danger where its not…
I believe this could turn out to be a workable idea. Playing on the psyche of your mind, making you see things that are not there. Would be nice to do some real psycological thriller of a shortmovie. Mixing in a lot of cool disturbing effects, ghosting. Dragging it to the brink of insanaty. Before finishing it of with letting her find her special friend.. If you believe in good endings like that... bwhahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAhahHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA!
*kremt..*
moving on..
Imagine the evolution of man over the, say, next 10 million years in a morphing timelapse.
I dont know about you, but that is to me a very interesting concept. It might not tell as much of a story, as it would show the possibillities of human evolution.
A journey of time and wonder into the possibilities of the next steps of human evolution. A time-lapse of 10 mill years of possible/possibilities in human form. Morphing from the evolutionary tree of hairy mammals, to our current form, to the next and maybe final forms.
(Lots of room for experimentation here. MANY characters to make. Great project for maybe 1-3 persons. Animation friendly, mostly “walk-cycles”, morphing. BUT from one single mesh. Using a basemesh with a set amount of points, a “blob” of clay if you will, with smartly placed polyflow, will in theory be able to be morphable between any forms you make of the “blob”.)
Im not going to get into styles that I would maybe like to use at this time, I feel thats a bit to early still, and I would like some more feedback on what people might think would work or what they would like to work on, before I go into that. I have certain ideas ofcourse. Ill be working on these concepts over the weekend, and will hopefully have some cool illustrations to show aswell. They will be posted here in their respective paragraphs.
