Getting Started...
First off, let me say that there will be spoilers here, so if you want to enjoy the film without spoiling to much at this point, I would recomend you read these posts at a later time, when teh film is done ^^Okay so lets get moving on the idea development process.
From the get-go I was fairly certain I would do the ELE story, or maybe Manly-Man, and alone if I had to. I believe they both would work with some more tweaks and finishing up of it all. But seeing as I also wanted to do group work, they both got discarded for now, as Andreas, Fredrik and Mats hopped aboard the boat.
Insted of doing a pre-made idea any of us had made beforehand, we decided to go for a full-blown all new collaborative idea. This may sound a bit foolish to do as it takes a lot of time to get a story good, and told well enough for the audience to read and understand.
So, we took our notepads and pencils and went into the think-room at school, and started our first hefty discussions into which road to take, what genre to go for and such. I knew I personally did not want to go for something comedic or slapstick-ish. Because, frankly, there's enough of it IMO. So something more darker, more serious. Something with a deeper thought put behind it, was the way I wanted to go.
I had a base idea for something like that in my earlier idea development stage, which was a girl walking into the woods, and the environment comes "alive" in a way. Was intended as somewhat like a psycological thriller short. Just playing with the frailty of the human mind I guess.
Girl In Room...
So I think some of the first thoughts we had around this was to have a little kid sit and play in his/her room and have the evironment come alive. The pillows and blankets becoming mighty mountains, LEGO's turning into mighty castles, and so forth. This got somewhat discarded eventually, but the little kid still remains.
The Old Lady...
Further refining the story, we came up with the idea of "Facing Death" (which still is the working title at this time I suppose :P) In which an old lady is seen sitting in her rocking chair, clearly old and on the brink of death. As we progress we get into a dreamlike world where we see the old lady as a young girl again, as she must face her fear of death, personified in a black, smoke-like-fog-monster thing.

Again, things seemed a bit complex and weird, things did not relate to much to each other as it should. But yet again as we further refine the elements, certain things stick, and are carried through in the process.
Like the girl from previously, and now we found our scary element, the "fog-monster" and somewhat our first ides for the "dreamworld" state she would be in. I dont know quite exactly when the fogmonster came into the picture, but the idea will work, and we all liked the thought of it as a "nemesis" in the story.
Not There Yet...
Now we are getting somewhere, but its not there yet. Some of the main features we wanted to include has now been laid out, and incorporated. Now it all just need to blend together...
